My work presents the cohesive story of this post-social-apocalyptic and soon to be bio-mechanical world. I will show this world what it is doing wrong. My work is a mirror, and a warning. I can create something beautiful from something perceived as being ugly. I can inter the heart of a dead cow in molten bronze, and the rotting flesh will become beautiful. The once living tissue will become an artificial ideal. The living (human) will become the artificial (machine).
One man’s junk can be another man’s epiphany—if God is in the details, then the message is in the presentation. All of my sculptures are biphasic. There is always at least one element in each piece that represents humanity, and another that symbolizes artificiality. When both are combined, the overall message is laden with the hope of an age when we reach equilibrium with our machinery. Being thusly interested in the symbiotic relationship of man and machine, my sculptures bring to light the very real possibility that in a few years, we will be able to have organs replaced with machines and vice versa. To fully understand my work, you must imagine a world where anyone can compose music in their mind and instantly download it and hear it in reality, or envision a future where things like camera lenses are made of living tissue genetically engineered and grown to be as sharp and crisp as an eagle's eye. Instead of futilely archiving our history on deteriorating paper and metal, electrically charged discs, the entire Library of Congress may someday be contained in a few customized strands of nucleic acid.
Soon we will all get chipped, paying for things with the wave of a hand. When our hearts stop working, an AbioCor replacement will be waiting on the shelf—and death? Why should we succumb to nature when we will be able to download our consciousnesses to a high performance, artificial neuronal network? We will all evolve from homo sapiens to robo-sapiens. View my work, and realize our future.
